Zac Martin is one hardworking singer/songwriter. He works at a music store during the day and plays gigs several nights each week. On top of this, he finds time to be a doting dad. Originally from Mobile, Zac, his wife Lindsey and child now live in Montgomery, AL. Between the move they spent about a year in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where Zac worked as a volunteer music teacher.

Zac began his musical journey when he was about 12, playing saxophone in his elementary school band. After about 3 years he took a year’s break from the sax. When he got the urge to get back into music he picked up a guitar and absolutely loved it. He just learned bits of songs until he and a friend of his started writing their own riffs and progressions during their jam sessions. In 2007 he met his soon to be wife, Lindsey, and immediately she started pushing him to perform. For about a year he performed cover songs, but the musical bug got him and he began writing his own music. Along the way he studied classical guitar for a year at the University of South Alabama, learned to play piano, picked the saxophone back up and joined the symphony band. In his future he sees formal training in classical guitar, jazz guitar and piano.

Hope you found time to watch Cass Hunter on The Java 5 Concert Series. Always a good time at 9 pm, Sunday nights on UTV 44. Not often you get to enjoy a first class mandolin player who also writes some great songs. Coming up Sunday is Mack Bailey & Rachel Levy. A wonderful duo that just happens to be married and recently became proud parents of a precious baby boy. All are doing fine.

M2B gave us one of our favorites, Kim Carson from New Orleans. What a great “Tonkabilly” artist. A little Honky Tonk, a little Rockabilly and you get that high-octane sound Kim is known for. Besides performing regularly in New Orleans, she tours in Louisiana, Texas, along the Alabama Gulf Coast and even Europe for 3-4 months each year.
